(1947-2021) Working name of fantasy illustrator Christos Achilléos, born in Cyprus, resident in the UK from 1960. He was widely renowned for his meticulously painted fantasy erotica, done in an elegant, polished style. He worked in cell paint with brush and airbrush on illustration board.

Achilleos studied scientific and technical illustration at Hornsey College of Art, but quickly turned to fantasy and sf book covers. He has produced cover paintings for editions of Edgar Rice Burroughs's Pellucidar books, Robert E Howard titles, John Norman's Gor books, as well as for editions of books by H G Wells, Michael Moorcock and Target Books' Dr Who series (1975-1977). In 1974 he began the series of erotic paintings for Paul Raymond's girlie magazine Mayfair that brought him worldwide recognition. He continued to produce fantasy book covers and movie posters, including Corgi Books' Star Trek series (1983-1984) and the Heavy Metal (1980) movie (see Heavy Metal). [RT]
