Tagged: Author.
(1886-1950) US poet, editor and novelist, brother of Stephen Vincent Benét, married to Elinor Wylie; he is best remembered as the editor of The Reader's Encyclopedia (1948), an extremely successful and accomplished guide. Of fantasy interest is his only novel for children, The Flying King of Kurio (1926), featuring an Oz-like land reachable through a magic Portal. The prose style is uneasy, but some of the interpolated poems are remarkable examples of assured Nonsense verse. [JC]
