(1943-2017) US writer, married to Avram Davidson. She began publishing work of genre interest with "My Head's in a Different Place, Now" for Universe 2 (anth 1972) ed Terry Carr, but has not been prolific in short forms. The King and the Mangoes (1975 chap) and The Proud Peacock and the Mallard (1976 chap) are Children's Fantasies about incarnations of the Buddha in various animal forms. The Rainbow Annals (1980), for adults, again explores the myth-rich intricacies of Buddhism, this time in a tale concerning the Monkey God and his various incarnations; as the epochs pass in a series of cyclical encounters, there is a sense of the Thinning of the world into history. Moonbird (1986), set in Malaysia, deals with the dilemmas of a native Shaman – whose travels with his God make up a significant portion of the novel – when a group of North Americans invade his home. [JC]

other works: Dr Grass (1978) and The Great Perpendicular Path (1980), both associational; Marco Polo and the Sleeping Beauty (1988) with Davidson.
