Tagged: Author.

(1942-    ) UK novelist. The Woman in Black (1983), adapted by Nigel Kneale (1922-2006) in 1989 for tv, is a Supernatural Fiction in which a Ghost kills children to avenge the death of her own; the narrative is of relentless bleakness, and ironizes any elements of pastiche in the tale. Other titles with supernatural elements include The Mist in the Mirror (1992), which is a rather ineffectual Ghost Story, and Mrs De Winter * (1993), a sequel to Daphne Du Maurier's Rebecca (1938) (see also Sequels by Other Hands). Hill also edited The Walker Book of Ghost Stories (anth 1990; vt The Random House Book of Ghost Stories 1991 US). [JC]
