Newman, Sharan

Tagged: Author.

(1949-    ) US author of adult and juvenile fantasy with a strong historical flavour. Her first book, The Dagda's Harp (1977), was a juvenile. The trilogy comprising Guinevere (1981), The Chessboard Queen (1983) and Guinevere Evermore (1985) gives a gently humorous account of the legends of Arthur, centred on the life and times of Guinevere: Newman's iconoclastic and often irreverent reinterpretations of stock Arthurian characters and situations lend considerable freshness and novelty to the trilogy. other works: Death Comes as Epiphany (1993); The Devil's Door (1994).
