Tagged: Author.

(1944-    ) UK writer of fiction for children, notably the Welsh-flavoured fantasies The Snow Spider (1986), Emlyn's Moon (1987; vt Orchard of the Crescent Moon 1989 US) and The Chestnut Soldier (1989), assembled as The Snow Spider Trilogy (omni 1993). These fine novels are set in the present day but based on the Mabinogion, somewhat after the fashion of Alan Garner's The Owl Service (1967). The first two volumes won the Smarties Prize and the Welsh Arts Council Tir na n'Og Award respectively, and the series formed the basis of a trio of UK tv serials (1988-1991) titled as per the books. In addition to many picture-books for younger children, Nimmo has also written the novels Ultramarine (1991), Rainbow and Mr Zed (1992) and Griffin's Castle (1994). [DP]
