Zemeckis, Robert

Tagged: Film, People.

(1952-    ) US moviemaker, originally talent-spotted by Steven Spielberg, with whom he has since often worked: the two have similar directorial styles and work with similar material – although it is unlikely that Spielberg would have been able to cope with Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), Zemeckis's masterpiece, which investigates levels of fantasy to which the older director has not yet aspired. Of fantasy interest are: Romancing the Stone (1984), which resembles an Indiana Jones movie (Zemeckis was not responsible for the pallid sequel, Jewel of the Nile [1985]), Back to the Future (1985), which he wrote, plus its sequels #II (1989) and #III (1990), all three being Time-Travel adventures; and Death Becomes Her (1992), a comedy, with state-of-the-art spfx, about the price of physical Immortality.
